9 Cleaning Hacks blog (2)
Spring brings more than showers & flowers. Aside from the worries of preparing your home to ward off insects or ensuring your roof can take on the April Showers, you probably have a haunting list of Spring Cleaning to-dos.
Fortunately, Scene Clean can do the work you despise the most. From tile and grout cleaning, carpet cleaning, and hardwood floor cleaning to air duct and dryer vent cleaning, we’ve got the skills and experience to make your home shine.
For all the little things you’ve got on your list, we’ve got some advice: Work Smarter, NOT Harder!
Here’s 9 Spring cleaning life hacks to make your spring cleaning much easier.

Dryer Sheets

Don’t throw out the dryer sheet you’ve found in your clean clothes basket!
Dryer sheets have many uses throughout your home, such as:

  • Buff water spots from mirrors, bathroom/kitchen fixtures and shower doors
  • Remove the ring inside the toilet
  • Wipe baseboards clean (works like a magic eraser!)
  • Clean a scorched pan or pot
  • AND SO MUCH MORE!

Clean Your Sponge

Sponges pick up a whole lot of bacteria. Don’t throw them out. Get the most out of your sponge!

Cleaning your sponge is easier than you think: pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds to remove any bacteria!
Allow a couple of minutes for your sponge to cool down before removing it from the microwave.

You can also put your sponge in the dishwasher to get it nice and clean again.

Vinegar Gets Rid of Water Stains

It’s time to move beyond spraying windex on your once-shiny faucets. Grab a rag and some vinegar to finally defeat stubborn hard water stains.
Here’s how:

How to Clean Stainless Steel

Again, ditch the windex routine and designated aerosol cans because this cleaning life hack will save money and time.
Are you fresh out of rubbing alcohol? A small dab of olive oil will get the job done, too.

Get Rid of Garbage Disposal Odor

When life gives you lemons, clean your garbage disposal! (That is, with what’s left over after you make lemonade..)
It’s crazy simple and will promote a clean, lemon scent in your kitchen.
Cut a lemon into slices and run it through the garbage disposal. Wallah!

Toothbrushes

Stop spending money on cleaning brushes, especially during the “spring cleaning hype.” Save money when you buy a pack of tooth brushes. They don’t need to be top dollar, name brand to get the job done. Small but powerful, a toothbrush will be your weapon of choice for tiny crevices and other hard-to-reach spots.

Remove Kitchen/Bathroom Cabinet Gunk

Speaking of toothbrushes…
All it takes to clean out that hard-to-reach, hard-to-clean gunk is 3 common household items.
Mix a solution of vegetable oil and baking soda, and then use an old toothbrush to scrub all that gunky stuff out of the corners of your cabinets.

Clean Up Glass Easily

Oh no! As you’re bringing out your Spring decor, you drop a flower vase. We all know that getting the tinier pieces of shattered glass is beyond difficult.
Here’s a hack for cleaning up broken glass: Use a slice of bread. Press it down lightly over the tiny shards of glass. Bread will pick up hard-to-see pieces that are almost impossible to sweep up. Walk barefoot without a worry in the world!

Hack to Clean a Microwave

Microwaves can get really messy very quickly. No one enjoys scrubbing their microwave. It’s tedious and can be difficult when it comes to long-time food debris.
Grab a microwave-safe bowl, pour equal amounts of water and vinegar in a microwave-safe bowl (not too much! You don’t want it to be filled to the brim) and toss in a toothpick (to prevent boiling). Set your microwave on high for 5 to 10 minutes. Allow a couple of minutes for the bowl to cool down, remove it, watch the magic happen when you easily wipe a paper towel (or that newly cleaned sponge) through the once-stubborn gunk. Voila!
Tip:

You can also add lemon to the mixture for a fresh, clean scent!
